How to be a successful leader.

Many people are reaching out to me asking point-blank… “how can I be a successful leader?”

I’ve said it many times before, leading is easy… if you know the basics. From there it’s just bettering yourself day after day.

But let’s start here. First, I would you say you need to lead by example. Not trying to be cliché but you need to talk the talk but also need to walk the walk. You need to do the right thing because it’s the right thing. And finally, you need to do the right thing even if it’s hard and especially when no one is watching!

Next, clear communication.  You need to be able to clearly share your exceptions, sure. But more importantly you need to be able to listen.  You are NOT to listen and try to have something else to say. You want to listen wholeheartedly to the person talking. Make sure you understand what they are saying and where they are coming from.  People don’t truly listen these days… if you are someone that is able to listen, this will make you stand out with the best.

Finally, you need a touch of humility.  You are the boss, cool. But you are not above making mistakes or misjudgements. Be humble enough to acknowledge these in front of you team. The moment your team realizes that you make mistakes but more importantly, you own up to them the sooner they will see you as one of the greats!
