When we are in leadership positions, sometimes we believe that the weight of the world is on our shoulders. That we need to be seriously focused on our work. This can be true. But…
If we want to perform our best, if we want out team to perform their best, we need to chill out a little. People do not produce their best work under miserable bosses. Yes, they will get work done and they will say it’s their best, but it won’t be.
People do their best work when they are relaxed, when they are comfortable and when they can have a laugh or two with people. This includes their boss!
When I worked for bosses that I could share a laugh with, I worked WAY harder. I went above and beyond to help them out. When I worked for miserable, demanding people, I did enough NOT to get fired… and you can’t tell me I’m the only one who’s done this.
